WEC Unit: Art History
The Department of Art History has an 11-member full-time faculty and enrolls approximately 60 students as majors. Writing in this highly visual field is based on close observation and verbal evocations of visual material. Art historians also conduct primary and secondary research into detailed historical narratives in order to construct interpretive arguments.  Because study in Art History can provide solid preparation for careers and graduate work in a variety of related fields, the department's lower- and upper-division courses attract majors and non-majors alike, which, in turn, makes curricular sequencing of writing instruction a complicated endeavor.
